Soulja Boy was arrested on April 11 after it was found out that he didn’t complete the required community service hours that were part of his probation and also even conspired to lie about it. Cops are also looking into a February raid at his house where he had ammunition and supposedly tied up his ex-girlfriend.
Soulja was brought back to court this afternoon and according to TMZ, a judge hit him with 240 days in prison in addition to 265 days of community service. The judge had thought about two years in prison but tried to be lenient as he realized that Soulja has missed out on some business moves since getting locked up. He has credit for 40 days served already though.
Soulja is also on probation for a 2014 weapons case so that looked like it played a role in him getting more time in jail than expected after just failing to complete the community service hours. He said that he had the biggest comeback of 2018 but it seems that everything is crashing down.
Soulja was also scheduled to perform at the upcoming Rolling Loud festival in Miami next month but now, that won’t happen. He had so much momentum after starting controversy about who had the biggest comeback and also claiming that he discovered artists such as Rich The Kid, Chief Keef and Famous Dex. This was a huge opportunity for Soulja to have another run again but these mistakes haunted him. Hopefully he can turn things around soon.
Clearly, this behavior is nothing new for Soulja Boy, who rose to fame in 2007. Unlike most rappers, of that timeframe, Soulja Boy was self-made, coming up off the internet. In many ways, Soulja Boy was a new-era Master P, who found an innovative way to make money off music, creating his own label, and opening doors for the people close to him.
A self-made millionaire, Soulja Boy ended up falling out with most of the original SODMG roster, but managed to rebuild, opening doors for the aforementioned Rich The Kid, Chief Keef, and Famous Dex. History also proved that it was Soulja Boy who gave Tyga and Drake some of their first co-signs, despite him trying to pick a fight with them, during his recent “Breakfast Club” interview.
Given everything that Soulja Boy has accomplished, it is strange that he finds himself in so much trouble. Even watching him on “Love & Hip Hop Hollywood” and “Marriage Boot Camp,” he had a good woman in Nia Riley, though she wasn’t perfect, she was his. But, Soulja Boy has alienated her, and burned bridges with tons of his peers, now blowing what did look like was a comeback year from him.
All this leads to the question, is Soulja Boy crying out for help, but the are too caught up in social media to notice it?
