The Lion King‘ was one of the most anticipated films of the summer as the remake of the original 1994 version contained some star power. The voice of older Simba is used by Donald Glover and Nala is played by Beyonce’. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver host John Oliver also supplied the voice of Zazu and Seth Rogen brought the vocals with Pumbaa.

As expected, The Lion King is doing amazing numbers in its opening weekend. According to Deadline, it has set a July domestic opening record with $192 million at the box office. This beats ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows‘ from 2011 which brought in $169.1 million. It earned $23 million on the opening day on Thursday, $78.5 million on Friday, and $61.6 million on Saturday. $531 million was totaled for worldwide sales.

The Lion King is also a top 10 opening of all-time along with Disney’s biggest opening for a film ever. Another record that it has obtained is the highest opening for a Disney animation reboot after ‘Beauty and the Beast’ with $174.7 million. It did a great job of bringing back the nostalgia of the original film and the computer-generated imagery was also up to par. Expect The Lion King to shatter some more records along the way as the summer comes to a close.
