Lyricism has returned to hip hop in a major way. There were several new rappers touted for bringing “real” hip hop back. In 2011 and 2012, a lot of attention was devoted to newcomers, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar, for their lyrical abilities. J. Cole set the tone, releasing his Cole World debut and Kendrick Lamar delivered Section.80.

J. Cole is currently working on Born Sinner, his sophomore album. Initially, J. Cole wanted to release the album in 2012, but did not. After missing the January release date, J. Cole delivered his Truly Yours EP. With the EP serving as the holdover, J. Cole is preparing the full Born Sinner album.

When J. Cole was in Los Angeles, he talked to Power 106’s Rikki Martinez about his upcoming music. There are a lot of projects fans are expecting from J. Cole. Of course plugging Truly Yours and previewing Born Sinner, J. Cole talked about the long-forgotten joint album with Kendrick Lamar, which he still says is coming.

Born Sinner is set to be released on June 16.
