Easily, the biggest single of 2012 came from Rick Ross’ Rich Forever mixtape. Rick Ross had a dominant year in 2011, without releasing his highly-anticipated album, God Forgives, I Don’t. In an effort to make it up to his fans, Rick Ross promised he would deliver a mixtape sometime early in 2012. The mixtape would become Rich Forever and the lead single was “Stay Schemin’,” initially popular for being Rick Ross’ song and boasting verses from Drake and French Montana.
When the song leaked, however, the attention was placed upon Drake’s verse. At the time, Drake had been exchanging subliminal disses with veteran rapper, Common. The subliminal shots were more direct on “Stay Schemin,'” which prompted Common to take the track and add his own verse to the song. Once Common got on the song and called Drake out by name, “Stay Schemin'” was all over the hip hop headlines. Now, several rappers have added their own versions of the song.
No stranger to controversy, having traded disses with Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes, among others, Joe Budden has decided to freestyle over the “Stay Schemin'” single.
