Preemo’s “In the Mix” Top Five Songs of the Week (March 17 – March 23, 2013)

PreemoBy Preemo
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

As another week passes, surely the anticipation is set for the creme de la creme that have made it through the selection process and into the ear drums. Good things come to those who wait, so I’ma be at least another hour late. But, on a serious note, apologies for the delay on this week’s countdown.

Those who work in music should have a passion for it. Being able to catch “In the Mix” on several stations, including DJ Clue’s Desert Storm Radio, Radio Invasion, and being a Fleet DJ, know there is a passion where Preemo is concerned. But, when it came to Hip Hop Vibe, the top five almost became the top six.

Of course, the decision was tough, but life is full of much tougher decisions. While it was relatively close to call, at times, everything worked out for the best. Now, back with the latest top five songs of the week, let’s get into it.

Listen to “In the Mix’s” Top Five Songs of the Week below:

Yasiin Bey ft. Jay Electronica and Lucy Liu – “They Die By Dawn”

The introduction of the beating drums let’s you know this isn’t a game, shortly followed by the crisp and familiar clip clop of certain famous country and western sample. Then in steps Yasiin, formerly Mos Def, to break down the scriptures. Jay Electronica links up with the former Blackstar emcee and this stands out for me as something different in a time when everyone sounds the same.

50 Cent ft. Kendrick Lamar – “We Up”

There is more than a hint of the early 2000’s 50 Cent on this joint where he proceeds to school everyone on the cost of wealth and what its like to be “Up”. Kendrick Lamar continues quickly staking his claim to becoming the freshman of the year following up his debut album good kid, m.A.A.d. city with quality guest appearances and consistent delivery.

MarVo ft. Future – “This Ain’t New To Me”

I’m a big fan of Future and his sound right now with pulsating synths and those dirty south drums you can imagine being behind the seat of your favourite sports car and hitting that pedal to this. Keep your eyes on MarVo as one to watch this year!

Termanology ft. Nitty Scott MC and Ea$y Money – “Bars for Days”

This track does exactly what it says on the tin, bringing through hard bars, tight delivery and real Hip Hop. Termanology calls up features from Nitty Scott, MC and Ea$y Money. Refreshing to hear that real to the culture sound still being delivered in a major way.

Kurt Collins ft. Krept and Konan – “GRIND”

There seems to be a recipe to UK Urban chart success right now…… hard music! From the soothing piano melody and intro vocals from Kurt the track then gets a lease of energy from the hard rock drums with Konan setting things off on top of this industrialized track.
