Not too long ago, New York was the go-to place for everything. But, other areas have risen up and the digital era has evened the playing field for everyone. In this new era, a lot of the original hubs have been overlooked, including New York, ironically.
Shakema is a rising model who is from New York, but being in the army has her everywhere. As she is establishing herself in the modeling world, she is also living the day-to-day. In addition to being in the army, she is also a married woman.
Recently, Shakema spoke to Hip Hop Vibe for the latest Hottie of the Week interview. While speaking to us, she explained what led her to modeling and her background. Freely speaking, she explained that she is married and in the army, which adds a new dynamic to her story.

Where are you from and what motivated you to start modeling? I am originally from New York and taking pictures has always been something I’ve loved to do since I can remember. I taught my brother how to use a camera when he was like two or three just so I could get a good profile picture. I just had to put some knowledge and practice behind it all.
When you hear the word ‘model’ what automatically comes to your mind? When I hear the word ‘model,’ I think of light, lots of lights and people watching you.
Have you had to adjust your life in any way since starting your modeling career? Since I’ve started my modeling career, I haven’t had to adjust my life more so my personality. I had to open up more
You are relatively young, so have you had the chance to further your education and if so what is your field of study? I have not furthered my education yet, but if I was to go to school for anything, it would be for psychology. I want to be able to talk to people and try to help them through whatever they’re going through. I am in the army, though.
What are your thoughts on Beyonce’s Lemonade album? I personally love Beyoncé’s new album Lemonade. It’s so raw and real and it speaks to my life.
Can you tell us some of your favorite things to do for recreation and entertainment? Outside of modeling , I love to do hair and shop. I also like to read.
If I was to go into Shakema’s kitchen looking for something to eat what type of items would I find in the fridge and cabinets? In my fridge you would find juice, lots of juice and tea. I love tea, maybe some eggs, bacon and cheese, salad, chicken, etc. As far as my cabinets, you’d probably see fruit snacks and ravioli and maybe some oatmeal.
When dating are you interested in finding a lover in the entertainment world or would it be possible for a regular Joe to be your man? I am married, so there is no dating. But, overall, I’m not impressed by the entertainment world, you could be the richest woman I’ve ever met, but if you can’t hold a decent conversation, I have no interest in you.
Describe what a romantic evening out with Shakema would be like? A romantic evening out with me would probably be something like a nice dinner, somewhere we’ve never been before and a walk by the lake just talking about whatever comes to mind.
