#ThirstTrapThurday with Annie Cruz: Jessica St. John talks current career, past in modeling, and favorite hip hop artists

By Annie Cruz
Vivid Radio Host / Hip Hop Vibe Contributing Writer

Popular alternative model, Jessica St. John made a name for herself by expressing herself through the art of her body. At a time when this type of modeling became popular, Jessica St. John made herself one of the biggest names in the culture. Since then, she has found other passions.

Jessica St. John still loves modeling, but she has found other things to occupy her time. Now, her primary work is that of canine training, and she’s fallen in love with it. From time-to-time, she still does some modeling, however.

In the latest #ThirstTrapThursday edition, Jessica St. John did the exclusive interview. She spoke about her journey to prominence in modeling, her decision to leave, and her passions. This interview is a must-read, especially when she shares the list of some of her favorite artists.

Read the entire interview below:

Are you still in freelance modeling and if not, what are you doing to occupy your time? On occasion, it’s been about two years since it was my main source of income. I train canines now and it’s been an amazing experience.

Do you still consider yourself a member of an alternative subculture and if so, why does this work for you? Yes, of course, it’s a part of my core and that will always be with me. My values, morality, and how I handle life are heavily influenced by it. Over time, as with most people, experiences, different people who are a part of your life introduce other variants that have become a part of my being as well, so I’m not as strict as I used to be.

We understand that you are a fan of ska and punk music. Who are your favorite artists in these genres and why do you like them? So much goodness, but The Clash, Oxymoron, The Specials, The Templars, Agnostic Front, Desmond Dekker, Stiff Little Fingers, The Dwarves, there’s too many. I can go through a barrage of reasons but I think that they speak for themselves. In hip hop, I love Ghostface, Mos Def, Twista, Eminem, Royce da 5’9, once again, too many great artists.

Are there any new movies or TV or streaming shows that have captured your attention? If so, which ones and why? I’ve been binge-watching the comic book shows as of late. Netflix has really stepped it up and I greatly surprised by how good they are. Jessica Jones, Daredevil, amazing. I love it.

What traits in a guy do you most admire? Admire, or are attracted to? Strength, not just bodily, but of mind. Confidence that you can actually see, but isn’t false to cover up a low self esteem. Passion, not just in a sexual sense but towards what he believes in and life. Pecs help, LOL.
