To start the week off, the VMAs were huge, as Missy Elliott was honored with the Video Vanguard. However, many complained, because Missy’s set was only seven minutes long. Still, Missy Elliott reminded the world of why she is a legend.

Missy Elliott also let it be known that she is far from done, too. Because it was Missy, and Cardi B, Normani, and the others that now occupy the hip hop space, hip hop was present. But, there were complaints, the entire time.

Ratings wise, MTV somewhat underperformed, bringing 4.9 million viewers, just as last year. However, there was not another decline, and, on social media, there was a huge jump. On social media, the VMAs trended for 12 hours, and social media interactions were at 269 million, making it the biggest event of the year.
