Possibly the biggest movement on the West Coast is Top Dawg Entertainment, the home of Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock. Over the past three years, each of these artists have had various levels of success. None, however, have had the same level of success as Kendrick Lamar, but the door has been opened.
When Kendrick Lamar signed a joint venture deal with Aftermath/Interscope. The overall Interscope label signed Top Dawg Entertainment to a joint venture deal. Now, the entire roster has a major label deal. Still, ScHoolboy Q and Ab-Soul have released street albums.
Now, the commercial run is set to begin for the crew. Ab-Soul recently visited New York City and he stopped by Hot 97. DJ Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg talked to Ab-Soul and he discussed the Top Dawg Entertainment crew, drug use, and also Kendrick Lamar’s rise.
