To its credit, BET has made great strides over the past decade to do better and it has. Being the first of anything is tough and BET was the first media outlet to be for the black community. The network is now joined by tons of other urban media outlets.
Still, being the first, BET has to continue to break barriers and they have done that with their revamped “BET News” department. This morning was their biggest undertaking, yet. They covered the Republican National Convention with their recap show.
At 11:00, this morning, BET had people tuned in as they witnessed the nomination of Donald Trump for the Republican party. Most on Twitter praised BET’s efforts in this regard, as it opened up discussion about politics. Many in the urban community almost always support Democrats, so discussion was opened up about why and understanding of those who go Republican.
