Those rappers who were on the verge of breaking through in the 2009-2010 era have now come of age. The biggest overall stars in music are Drake, J. Cole, Big Sean, and Nicki Minaj. All of these artists were among the “new” class of 2009.
Big Sean has carved his own niche out, delivering a consistent string of hits. Fans have grown accustomed to Big Sean dropping something new every other year. Typically, he drops his singles at the end of the prior year, and the album by spring.
Despite Big Sean making good music and always showing Detroit love, on record, and in person, Detroit isn’t feeling him. Even after handing out food, Detroit rappers are jumping on Big Sean, today. They have taken to Twitter to call Big Sean out for not showing local rappers love, but fans come to his defense, saying he does a lot for the city, and they never supported him, then or now.
