Big Sean talks Nicki Minaj and Juicy J-assisted “Milf” with Rap-Up [VIDEO]

Big Sean Opens Up About “Milf” Collaboration with Nicki Minaj and Juicy J
Currently, Big Sean continues to dominate headlines ahead of his Hall of Fame album release. While his latest track “Control” with Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica has everyone talking, Big Sean isn’t slowing down. Now, another song from his upcoming project, “Milf,” is garnering attention—thanks to its edgy content and star-studded collaboration with Nicki Minaj and Juicy J.
Big Sean turned to Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica for “Control.” On the song, all three emcees wanted to vent. However, Kendrick took on the entire industry. That included Big Sean and Jay Electronica. As a result, many rappers have come with their own responses. Some have included some barbs at Big Sean. But Sean is taking it all in stride, showing Kendrick love, and hyping his second LP.
As Big Sean gears up for the official release of Hall of Fame, he stopped by Rap-Up in Los Angeles to talk about “Milf” and the inspiration behind the track. Known for his unique concepts, Big Sean explained that the song isn’t just about shock value but carries a deeper message that’s relatable to many people.
The Concept Behind “Milf”
Big Sean described the song as a “ranchy” but real concept. He opened up about the thought process behind “Milf,” which focuses on a kid’s perspective toward their mom dating someone new.
“Every song on the album has meaning to it, and Milf is definitely raunchy, but it’s real,” Big Sean explained. He noted that the song taps into a topic that hasn’t been explored much in hip-hop—kids disliking their mom’s new boyfriend. “If you ever dated a girl who has a kid, or been that kid where your mom had boyfriends and you were always like ‘man, stop looking at my mom!’ It’s fun but real at the same time,” Sean added.
The track allows each artist to play a specific character, creating a dynamic and playful narrative. While Juicy J and Nicki Minaj both bring their signature style to the table, they do so in a way that enhances the concept. “Everybody on there is playing characters,” Big Sean said. “Nicki’s playing a character, Juicy’s playing a character, and I’m playing my own.”
Working with Nicki Minaj and Juicy J
Big Sean also revealed what it was like working with both Nicki Minaj and Juicy J on the record. He has a history of working with top-tier talent, but Sean said this collaboration was something special.
“Working with Nicki is cool and easy. You know, me and her are friends, so it wasn’t complicated,” Big Sean shared. According to him, he reached out to Nicki Minaj, and she quickly delivered her verse for “Milf.” Juicy J, who’s known for his strip-club anthems and unmistakable flow, added another layer to the song’s dynamic, bringing his own flair to the mix.
Produced by The Internz, who also worked on “Mona Lisa,” Big Sean made it clear that “Milf” stands out as one of the album’s hardest tracks. “The Internz did their thing, and it’s definitely one of the hardest songs for real.”
Nicki Minaj has been one of the most successful artists in the game since her 2010 debut. However, Juicy J has been on an incredible run over the past year. A veteran in the game, Juicy J broke through last summer with “Bands a Make Her Dance.” Now, he’s known as the king of the strip club anthems. This is huge for Big Sean to reunite with Nicki, as they have their own strip club anthem. Now, he adds Juicy J for this single.
Beyond “Milf”: Hall of Fame and Big Sean’s Legacy
While “Milf” is generating hype, Big Sean also teased fans about another exciting moment on the album: “First Chain,” a track featuring Kid Cudi. Cudi’s inclusion is particularly significant, as fans know he left Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label earlier in 2013. Despite his departure, Big Sean said Kid Cudi made sure to pay homage to his former label on the record.
“At the end of the song, he still said ‘G.O.O.D. Music forever,’” Big Sean revealed. “It just goes to show that it’s deeper than an imprint on a piece of paper—we’re brothers.” Sean expressed how proud he was of Cudi for making sure to shout out G.O.O.D. Music, saying it will be a powerful moment for fans who might have been disappointed by Cudi’s exit from the label.
As Big Sean reflected on his relationship with G.O.O.D. Music and Kanye West, he said that no matter where his career goes, he will always be connected to the label that helped launch his career. “Whether it’s on paper or off paper, I’m gonna be G.O.O.D. Music forever,” he said.
Commercially, Big Sean has been G.O.O.D. Music’s most successful artist. Despite a wait of almost four years to release his album, Big Sean didn’t disappoint. Since the release of Finally Famous, Sean has delivered consistent radio hits. As a result, this makes him the most commercially successful rapper from Detroit since Eminem. So, every win Big Sean has ends up making history.
What’s Next for Big Sean?
As Hall of Fame nears its release date, Big Sean’s excitement continues to build. With features from Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Juicy J, and Kid Cudi, the album is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about projects of the year. And while “Milf” may be one of the more controversial tracks, it’s clear that Big Sean isn’t afraid to push boundaries with his music.
On top of all the hype around Hall of Fame, Big Sean has also hinted at future projects, including collaborations with more top-tier artists. With his ability to balance conceptual tracks like “Milf” alongside massive hits like “Control,” it’s no wonder Big Sean has remained at the center of hip hop’s biggest conversations.
As fans eagerly await the full release of Hall of Fame, Big Sean is ensuring that his legacy as a versatile artist who can bring fresh ideas to the table continues to grow.
