Jay-Z led the hip hop billionaire race for years, holding consistent at the $400 million mark. Recent years have seen Diddy climb the top of the mountain, but Dr. Dre has made great strides. His business moves have seen him move Jay-Z down to the third position and now Dr. Dre is on the verge of taking the top spot.
The difference in Dr. Dre taking the top spot in comparison to the others will be him being guaranteed to cross the billion dollar mark. Years ago, Dr. Dre established a deal to create his Beats by Dre headphone line. Since then, it has become a staple over at Interscope Records, as Jimmy Iovine is a 50% partner in the venture.
Now, Apple appears to be closing in on a deal with Dr. Dre for Beats. This is something that has him willing to let go, as they are offering $3.2 billion for full ownership of Beats. If and when this deal goes through, Dr. Dre goes well beyond set for life.
