There is a strong team behind Cash Money Records’ success. Birdman and Slim are fortunate men to know so many people care about their company. When YMCMB was on its last, Lil Wayne saved the day. Lil Wayne did so with his music and by surrounding himself with guys like Mack Maine and Cortez Bryant.
Allowing him the opportunity to focus his attention back on music, Lil Wayne released his latest album, I Am Not a Human Being 2, today. This album stands out for several reasons, including being Lil Wayne’s tenth studio album. Birdman is enjoying how smoothly his machine runs.
Rolling Stone talked to Birdman and Cortez Bryant about the album. Both are in love with it, but for different reasons. Birdman is a fan of the futuristic “Lay it Down,” which features Nicki Minaj. On the other hand, Cortez Bryant likes the sound of the album, as it reminds him of Lil Wayne’s mixtapes and he praised Gudda Gudda’s contributions on the album, along with the “Romance” song.

Birdman
“It reminds me of the traditional Cash Money sound,” said Birdman, adding “he went back to raw rapping and beats with lots of swagger.” Baby also spoke of the otherworldly feel of the TNGHT sampling, Diplo-produced track “Lay It Down,”. “It’s not a normal hip-hop track,” he explained. “At first, I thought it was kinda weird – the beat sounds like it came from outer-space – but it grew on me, and Nicki killed it.”
Cortez Bryant
“It’s mixtape Weezy – straight street bangers you’re going to hear in the club,” he declared. “The sound is more urban, with no R&B hooks, and the wordplay is still incredible and shocking – every bar has some witty punchline. Wayne really took it back to his roots.”
“Gudda Gudda just kills on that,” he said. “Wayne said he almost couldn’t get his bars off because Gudda’s voice is so nice.”
