In 2006, Lil Wayne teamed up with his “father,” Birdman, for a collaborative album, which they titled Like Father, Like Son. During the fall of 2006, the duo released their hit single, “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy.” The album also featured other hit singles, “Leather So Soft” and “You Ain’t Know.” The album was the final official release from Lil Wayne until he released 2008’s Tha Carter III.

There were several projects with Lil Wayne’s name invovled, including a few collaborative albums. Among the new Lil Wayne albums announced was a sequel to the 2006 album with Birdman, Like Father, Like Son.

With Lil Wayne’s time in prison and the emergence of Young Money, there was not much time for another album between Birdman and Lil Wayne to be recorded. Early in 2011, Birdman discussed the planned Cash Money releases for 2011. The Like Father, Like Son sequel was announced among the new albums planned, Drake also mentioned htis album.

Months have gone by since the album was mentioned and Birdman recently took to his Twitter to announce the new album. Birdman said he has been recording new tracks with Lil Wayne since 2008, when the album was originally announced. When Lil Wayne was released from prison, they went into the studio and recorded several more new tracks. Currently, a December release date is planned and Birdman said all they have to do is choose which songs will be a part of the album, but they will likely record a new batch and then release the album.

The official title of the album is Like Father, Like Son 2: The Last Mob.
