It has become customary of Birdman to sit down for an interview, during the opening days of January every year and discuss his plans for Cash Money Records. The label has grown since its days as a local label in New Orleans. Now, a roster of over 100 artists are a member of Cash Money Records.
During Birdman’s 2012 projections for Cash Money Records, he revealed he wanted to begin pushing other genres of music. A few days ago, Lil Wayne announced Limp Bizkit, a famous rock group, signed with the label. This was confirmed by the group, but the label did not speak on it.
XXL caught up with Birdman to ask him about the signing. Birdman revealed Fred Durst, the frontman of the group, reached out to him. During their discussion, Birdman said Durst made it clear he wanted to join the team. Already a fan of Limp Bizkit, Birdman was surprised, but did not waste time signing the group to the label. Lil Wayne was the one chosen to make the announcement, but he was supposed to make the announcement at the Grammys.
Already, Limp Bizkit is working on their first music under the Cash Money umbrella. Their first Cash Money single will feature Lil Wayne, who has dabbled in rock music before. When it comes to the production of the music, Birdman said he will leave everything up to the group. Calling Fred Durst a visionary, Birdman said he wants him to take over Cash Money’s rock division and help bring more rock talent to the label.
The single with Lil Wayne is completed and will be released next week, also receiving praise from Birdman. Fred Durst has also had nothing but good to say about Cash Money Records. Durst said Cash Money Records is on top of their game and he signed there because of the family-like support system there. Also a film director, Fred Durst hopes to bring his vision both to the music and the videos of Cash Money Records from this point onward.
