Biz Markie Passes Away at 57, After Battle With Complications From Diabetes

Over two weeks ago, rumors surfaced about Biz Markie passing away. Those were shut down by people close to Markie, but apparently, he was still dealing with health issues.

According to TMZ, Markie has now passed away at the age of 57. This is after dealing with complications of diabetes for over a year. He passed away at a Baltimore hospital, at 6:25PM.

Markie’s wife, Tara Hall, was reportedly by his side, and held his hand, in his last moments. Markie had Type II diabetes, as he was also hospitalized for it last summer.

Markie originally turned into a star in 1989, with the release of his hit single “Just A Friend.” It peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and is platinum in the US.

“We are grateful for the many calls and prayers of support that we have received during this difficult time,” said Markie’s family in a statement to TMZ. “Biz created a legacy of artistry that will forever be celebrated by his industry peers and his beloved fans whose lives he was able to touch through music, spanning over 35 years. He leaves behind a wife, many family members and close friends who will miss his vibrant personality, constant jokes and frequent banter.”
