A heartbreaking video shared by a black woman on Instagram has gone viral. She her acceptance of being ugly and the constant inboxes she receives from black men calling her ugly. The woman says that she has finally come to terms with the fact that she is not considered beautiful in society’s eyes.
“I’ve accepted it,” the woman says tearfully in the video. “I’m just an ugly black woman.”
She goes on to explain how her mother was the only person who ever told her she was beautiful and how this has left a lasting impact on her self-esteem. Despite this acceptance, however, she still receives numerous messages from black men calling her ugly. As a result, she says she accepts her fate.
The video sparked outrage among viewers. They couldn’t believe such harsh words could be directed at someone simply because of their appearance. Many expressed their support for the woman. In addition, they condemned those sending hateful messages to strangers online. Celebrities like Viola Davis gave her support. Others shared similar experiences of feeling unattractive due to societal beauty standards set by mainstream media which often favor lighter skin tones over darker ones when it comes to representation in advertising and entertainment industries alike.
This incident serves as yet another reminder of how deeply ingrained racism can be within our society today; even something as seemingly innocuous as complimenting someone’s looks can turn into an opportunity for racialized insults if one isn’t careful enough about what they say or do not realize its implications until it’s too late like here where these men thoughtlessly sent hurtful messages without considering their impact upon others lives negatively affecting them emotionally psychologically mentally spiritually physically
