For a brief period of time, Bow Wow retired from rapping. Following the release of his 2009 album, New Jack City, Pt. II, Bow Wow decided to focus more on his acting career. Months after this decision, Bow Wow signed with Cash Money Records, thus ending his retirement. As many waited for a new album, Bow Wow recorded several mixtapes.

In 2010, Bow Wow revealed he was working on a new album, which would be released before the holiday season. The album was not released then, but was given a title, Underrated, before the end of the year. In 2011, Bow Wow again promised to release the album in the fourth quarter. During the summer, Bow Wow gave the album a release date of November 1, which was delayed to December, and then into 2012.

Right when people had forgotten about Bow Wow’s album, he has returned with news about the release. Birdman has discussed Cash Money Records and the number of releases he wants to come from the album. With all the delays Bow Wow has faced, he is ready for the album to finally be released. Bow Wow, via Twitter, revealed information about the long-awaited album. In the first tweet, Bow Wow revealed collaborations with Tyga, Busta Rhymes, Lil Wayne, Birdman, all label-mates on Cash Money, Meek Mill, Music Soulchild, Jadakiss, Chris Brown, Talib Kweli, and Wiz Khalifa.

In the following tweet, Bow Wow announced the album would be released on June 12, 2012, the same day Waka Flocka Flame releases his sophomore album, Triple F Life.
