Brian McKnight was accused of abandoning his original family by his son, in 2019. Early in 2021, McKnight’s son, Brian McKnight, Jr., shared a similar post. At the time, the younger McKnight was working on his debut album. After Brian McKnight saw his son’s post, he spoke out and denied cutting off his oldest children. Instead, Brian McKnight said his son was upset because he stopped paying his bills, when he told him to find a job.

They have accused Brian McKnight of abandoning his original family. They pointed out how Brian McKnight only has his stepchildren in his Instagram bio, leaving out his biological children in favor of his Asian stepchildren.
