Former cameraman sues Megan Thee Stallion for harassment and hostile work environment

Cameraman sues Megan Thee Stallion for harassment

A former personal cameraman for Megan Thee Stallion, Emilio Garcia, has filed a lawsuit. He’s claiming harassment and a hostile work environment took place during his tenure with the Grammy-winning artist. According to Garcia, the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, details an incident in Ibiza, Spain, where he felt uncomfortable after witnessing Megan engaging in sexual acts in a car beside him.

Garcia alleges that following the incident, Megan instructed him to never discuss what he saw. Also, he alleges she subsequently subjected him to verbal abuse, including fat-shaming. He described feeling degraded, especially as Megan is known for advocating body positivity. Additionally, Garcia claims that his pay structure was altered unfavorably upon their return. Garcia said it switched from a monthly salary to a task-based payment system. As a result, it led to a decrease in his bookings and overall income.

The lawsuit also highlights potential employment and wage violations, asserting that Garcia was misclassified as an independent contractor, which affected his entitlement to overtime pay, breaks, and essential healthcare benefits. Garcia is seeking over six figures in damages, including unpaid wages, statutory penalties, and costs incurred, such as attorney’s fees.

This legal battle sheds light on the complexities of employment relationships in the entertainment industry and the challenges workers may face. Representatives for Megan Thee Stallion and her management company, Roc Nation, have not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter.
