Cardi B has been one of the most dominant artists in the industry since 2017. She stormed onto the scene with her breakout hit single, “Bodak Yellow,” that year and the rest was history. She scored a No.1 debut album in 2018 and scored two more platinum singles in 2019. In fall 2020, she again won big wit her No. 1 single, “WAP,” feat. Megan Thee Stallion.
Cardi continues to break records on the charts and now, the latest one is impressive as well. According to Talk of The Charts, she is the only female artist to have three best-selling songs of the year in total units in the US this century. These three records are Bodak Yellow in 2017, “I Like It” feat. J Balvin and Bad Bunny in 2018, and WAP in 2020.
Ass of now, Bodak Yellow is 9x platinum, I Like It is 9x platinum, and WAP is 3x platinum. 2021 definitely seems the year that Bodak Yellow and I Like It will reach diamond status. All three of these singles were also No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at one point. WAP hasn’t submitted for the GRAMMYs but this is reportedly due to Cardi wanting to release her sophomore album first.
