Emmett Till whistle accuser Carolyn Bryant Donham passes away
Many have been calling for justice for 14-year-old Emmett Till, since the 1950s. In 1955, he was brutally murdered by two white men, after Carolyn Bryant Donham accused Till of whistling at her. Till was in Mississippi, while visiting from Chicago.
The two white men went on to be acquitted in a 1955 trial, but went on to admit to the crime they committed. Many years later. These two men were Donham’s husband and brother in-law. A warrant for Donham’s arrest was found last year in the basement of a courthouse, but authorities in a grand jury decided not to follow up on that arrest.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed on Thursday, that Donham officially passed away at the age of 88. This was revealed by the Calcasieu Parish, LA coroner’s office to Mississippi Today. At the time, she’d been under hospice care and fighting cancer.
The news of Donham’s death also comes after a film about Emmett Till was released, in 2022. This was titled “Till,” as featured actors and actresses such as Danielle Deadwyler, Whoopi Goldberg, and Haley Bennett. Jalyn Hall played the role of Till.
