This has been a shaky start to Black History Month, to say the least. It’s bad enough all of these “blackface” pictures are coming to surface, now we have to deal with self-hate from a black football player. Whew chile.
Los Angeles Chargers’, Jahleel Addae, and his fiancée, Lindsey Nelson, are catching HEAT for making a toast to having more light-skinned kids. The two, share one child together, who is visibly of a lighter complexion. The toast happens at a table full of black men and white women.
The comment was unnecessary and very reflective of the type of self-hate many African-Americans feel everyday. It’s always been taught that lighter skin is better and black people have been fighting to prove that their dark skin is just as beautiful. For someone in a position like Jahleel is, he should’ve checked his fiancée and everyone at that table. To continue to perpetuate colorism is disgusting and dangerous. I don’t understand how men with black ass mamas and grandmas, can even be okay with this being said.
