When Charli Baltimore signed with Murder Inc. Records, she joined the then-hottest label in hip hop and felt she would finally have her shot to become famous. Ten years ago, it seemed as if she was well on her way when Ja Rule released “Down Ass Bitch” as the final single from his Pain is Love album, the highest-selling album in his career.

The music video for the single became a fixture on BET and MTV, with the world being introduced to the redhead bombshell as the Bonnie to Ja Rule’s Clyde. Later in the summer, Charli Baltimore appeared alongside Ja Rule in the sequel, Murder Inc.’s “Down 4 U.” That single featured Ashanti and the original femcee of Murder Inc., Vita.

Many plans for Murder Inc. Records were put on hold when the popularity began to dwindle and 50 Cent began releasing diss records aimed at Ja Rule and the label. In the end, 50 Cent would take over the rap game, while Ja Rule posted a few more hits, but was on the decline. 50 Cent became one of hip hop’s biggest moguls, while the other Murder Inc. members returned to the independent scene.

Charli Baltimore has come close to stardom twice, initially working with The Notorious B.I.G. and Lance “Un” Rivera. During this time, she was rumored to have been involved with both men, along with Jay-Z. Signed to Rivera’s label, Charli Baltimore worked closely with a then up-and-coming Cam’ron. Fifteen years after this period of time, which followed hard times, Charli Baltimore is making her comeback and, ironically, she spoke with 50 Cent’s ThisIs50.com about her comeback in music. Her upcoming single features Maino.
