Chingy has one of the most interesting come up stories in hip hop. Although he didn’t break through until 2003, he began recording his album in 1996. The sound he created on “Right Thurr” was a sound created seven years prior. Even the hook was made in 1996. As a result, Chingy’s debut album, Jackpot, had many 1990s references. When the album dropped, in 2003, it went double platinum. Twenty years later, fans are looking back on 2003, and Chingy obviously came to mind.
Chingy was the second major artist to emerge from St. Louis. However, during the time of his rise, he was at odds with Nelly. While their beef was high profile, they eventually made amends. Admittedly, Chingy doesn’t like talking about their past issues. However, what he did say was that he and Nelly had many mutual friends. In addition, members of Nelly’s crew were good friends with members of Chingy’s own family. After all, they’re from the same city.
Chingy began trending today and it left a lot of people surprised. But Chingy has several viral interviews, from just a few months ago. On Twitter, there is a photo showing several rappers from 2003. The question was who the best freshman from 2003 was. Among the rappers listed were Lloyd Banks, Chingy, Joe Budden, The Game, Young Buck, Yng Selah, and Juelz Santana. In the end, Chingy was the overwhelming favorite.
