Chris Rock will reportedly not file police report against Will Smith, after getting slapped by Smith during #Oscars, for making Jada Pinkett joke

Chris Rock isn’t pressing charges against Will Smith after slap at Oscars

Sunday night definitely featured one of the biggest Academy Awards/Oscars moments in the award show’s history, and is already one of the biggest viral moments of 2022. This was when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, on stage. This was due to Rock making a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett, by calling her “G.I. Jane.” This is a reference to Pinkett’s bald head, as she has apparently been going through alopecia, which causes hair loss.

Many viewers wondered if Smith’s move was scripted, but it was evidently not, after he yelled “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth!,” as he sat down. According to Variety, Rock has reportedly decided not to press charges. This was confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department.

“LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program. The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved has declined to file a police report. If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report.”

However, the Academy Awards has issued a statement on social media, as well. They emphasized that they do not condone violence.

“The Academy does not condone violence of any form. Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world.”

Smith did apologize for his actions, at the end of the night. Then, he won the Oscar for best actor, for “King Richard.” Smith also added that he hopes he is invited to the ceremony next year, despite what occurred on Sunday night.
