Until recently, there was no mainstream voice for the transgender community. All of this has changed with Lee Daniels’ new FOX drama series, “Star.” While the show stars Jude DeMorest as the titular character, there are other characters reflecting the LGBT community.
A prominent supporting “Star” character is Cotton (portrayed by real-life transwoman, Amiyah Scott), who goes through her fair share of trouble. An unapproving mother in Carlotta (Queen Latifah) makes Cotton consider suicide. The pastor’s (Tyrese) prayer played a part, too.
However, what took place in New Orleans was real-life, and it was horrible. While shopping in New Orleans, a prominent transgender entertainer, Chyna Gibson, was reportedly shot to death. Reports say she was shot several times and this is yet another senseless murder of a young, black, life.
