The coronavirus pandemic has ruined festivals and tours this year in the music industry as they continue to either get postponed or canceled even though we’re still only in June. Lollapalooza in Chicago, which was supposed to go down from July 30-August 2, recently got postponed and now, Coachella is sadly the latest victim.
According to Billboard, Coachella has officially been canceled and is aiming for their usual April dates. The festival initially postponed the concerts to two weekends this October but it looks like they still have plenty of concerns regarding the virus. AEG, the parent company of Goldenvoice (Who sets up Coachella every year), has also been experiencing a significant amount of layoffs due to the pandemic.
Coachella also plans to have limited-capacity in regards to its 2021 April comeback. They are reportedly aiming at 60% for the capacity but a “final rescheduling decision” won’t be made until “there is more clarity on the pandemic’s overall trajectory.”
The lineups for Coachella 2020 were revealed back in January and as you can image, it was very star-studded. Among the artists that were set to perform in Indigo, CA were Travis Scott, DaBaby, Megan Thee Stallion, Roddy Ricch, Summer Walker, Ari Lennox, 21 Savage, and more. The news of Coachella officially being canceled is very disappointing and it is part of the wreckage that this pandemic has caused in 2020 already. Hopefully, we get back to 100% normalcy by 2021.
