While hip hop has become more commercial and materialistically-inclined, Common kept hip hop at its core. Ironically, he has received more mainstream success than most rappers. Not only has he become a movie star, he also had a lead role on a television show.

Common makes moving music and he jumped on the “Glory (Selma)” record with John Legend. This track is included on the upcoming movie based on Martin Luther King, Jr., Selma. Earlier this week, Common won a Golden Globe for his effort.

“The Breakfast Club” got on the phone with Common for DJ Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlamagne Tha God to congratulate him. They had him on the phone for a brief interview and he talked about the win and the speech. Common also addressed the negative feedback Selma has received from the mainstream media.
