Cortez talks battle rap and winning KOTD battle
Cortez is a rising star in the game. In addition, he’s major figure on the battle rap scene. He most recently battled in Toronto at the King of the Dot battle. Here, Cortez faced off against Arcane and finished on top in the contest. But, this is only one part of what Cortez does, as he has transitioned into making regular hip hop music.
Last year, Cortez talked to Hip Hop Vibe during the 2013 A3C Hip Hop Festival. During that interview, Cortez discussed his battle with John John Da Don, and how he’d be spending his time in Atlanta. It’s been a little over a year since Cortez first talked to Hip Hop Vibe. In the year since then, Cortez has continued honing his skills. Also, he has shifted his focus to making music that has appeal to wider audiences.
Cortez took time out to talk to Hip Hop Vibe during the Manual Music Conference. After explaining why he was at the conference and why it is necessary, Cortez discussed what it takes to be an independent artist. An increasing number of artists are opting to go the independent route. As a result, Cortez explained his position. He then went on to discuss catching a body in his King of the Dot battle against Arcane and marketing and promotion.
