Before French Montana rose to “Shot Caller” status, Cory Gunz seemed positioned to usher the New York hip hop scene back to prominence. Cory Gunz signed with Young Money in the early summer of 2010 and Lil Wayne called upon him to provide a verse on his comeback single, “6 Foot 7 Foot.” The song went on to become a hit single and became one of 2011’s biggest hits. While the song did well, Lil Wayne said fans should not expect to hear from Cory Gunz immediately after the success of the single.

Since “6 Foot 7 Foot” has fallen from popularity, Cory Gunz has returned to the mixtape scene. Even though he is no longer in the spotlight, the young rapper still has a bright future ahead of himself. Over the weekend, it appeared as if this future had been put in jeopardy. Cory Gunz was in the Bronx when he was confronted by law enforcement, who ended up searching his bag. Inside the bag was a loaded firearm, which is illegal to carry anywhere in the City of New York, so Cory Gunz was arrested.

Immediately following the arrest, Peter Gunz spoke to the media about the situation. As a father, Peter Gunz admitted it hurt to see his son in handcuffs. However, Peter Gunz also said the search was illegal, but he was glad the arresting officer was cool about the situation. The officer sat Cory Gunz down and gave him advice and the officer also spoke with Peter Gunz, as he was getting his son out of jail. Last night, Nick Cannon tweeted about Cory Gunz’ arrest, saying it was a little bad luck and he promised the team would soon be past the situation.

When he was released from jail, Cory Gunz told fans, via Twitter, he was home. Cory Gunz would speak, in-depth, with the New York Daily News about what happened. Denying any intention of using the gun, Cory Gunz said he made a big mistake and he will work to get through it. The popular rapper said he realizes many young people look up to him and he has to set an example. The Young Money standout said people will understand once the smoke clears.
