A major label is not necessary to become a successful artist, ask Curren$y. Initially, the first artist signed to Young Money, Curren$y left the label in 2006 and returned to releasing independent mixtapes. Soon, the New Orleans rapper caught the attention of Damon Dash and others, becoming one of the most-searched rappers on the internet.

Curren$y has continued to release popular mixtapes and street albums. Due to his large following, many big name artists want to work with Curren$y. Even after leaving Young Money, Curren$y has collaborated with Lil Wayne and maintains his full support. Among the independent artists leaving a mark on the game is Curren$y.

Harry Fraud shot to fame after producing then-independent rapper, French Montana’s then-mixtape track, “Shot Caller.” The song went on to become a massive hit, with Harry Fraud becoming a high-demand producer. Curren$y recently announced, via Twitter, that he will be collaborating with Harry Fraud on a new EP, Cigarette Boats.
