The first hit of 2012 came during the first week. After delaying his God Forgives, I Don’t, Rick Ross promised to hold fans over with a new mixtape. DJ Scream was signed to Maybach Music in the midst of Rick Ross’ signing spree in 2011. Early in 2012, the two teamed up for the Rich Forever mixtape, which became the most-downloaded mixtape in history.

“Stay Schemin'” was the first single off the mixtape and it was notable for several reasons. French Montana had become the biggest rapper from New York City with his consistent wave of music. After capturing the attention of the rap game, French Montana signed with Bad Boy Records. Working closely with Rick Ross, the single featured French Montana.

At the time, Drake was exchanging subliminal disses with Common. Drake would use “Stay Schemin'” to take aim at Common on the single. Recently, French Montana sat down with Life + Times and he did their DECODED series. During his interview, French Montana explained his verse on “Stay Schemin,'” denying he used the word “fanute.”
