Brooklyn is home to many of the greatest artists ever. In hip hop, few have had a bigger impact than Talib Kweli. Though he may not ring bells as quickly as many other rappers, he is the cliche “favorite rapper’s favorite rapper.” Prisoner of Conscious dropped earlier this month and Talib Kweli showed he could possibly man the spotlight.
There was once another time when Talib Kweli appeared to be crossing over into the mainstream. Understand, this was never Talib Kweli’s agenda, but when he released his single, “Get By,” in 2003, it almost happened. Early in the summer of 2003, “Get By” was a major hit.
Recently, Talib Kweli talked to Life + Times for their “Decoded” series. In the interview, of which he did two, Talib Kweli talked about two of his most-notable songs. Talib Kweli decoded first “Turnt Up” and then he jumped on his “Get By” single. Most know Talib Kweli because of the latter.
