Def Jam loses Sha Money XL, promotes Shawn “Pecas” Costner to Executive Vice President

Over at Def Jam, things have been in freefall since Jay-Z left to start Roc Nation. Assuming his role with the company was Shakir Stewart, who appeared to be well-liked within the company. A more hands-on leader, Shakir Stewart died only months after taking the label over.

Def Jam went the next couple years without no clear leader and it only got worse when news broke of L.A. Reid leaving. Going to Epic Records, L.A. Reid has put the label back on the map and Sha Money XL has joined him over there as of yesterday. Great news for the Epic company, but does nothing to solve Def Jam’s problem.

Joie Manda recently relocated to Los Angeles and left Def Jam to work at Interscope Records. However, there is a bit of good news within this, as Shawn “Pecas” Costner has been promoted to Executive Vice President within the company. Still, there is no new president of Def Jam.
