There was no known Philadelphia hip hop scene until DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince put the city on the map. In 1986, the duo scored a deal with Jive Records and had their debut album, Rock the House, out by March 1987. Hip hop was something they were good at, but The Fresh Prince was made for television.

In 1990, things forever changed for DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, when they became known to the world as Will and Jazz. NBC greenlit “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” in 1990 and things were forever changed. For Will Smith, his acting career was launched and Jazzy Jeff’s stock as a DJ rose significantly.

Recently, DJ Jazzy Jeff has done a few interviews with the media. Sway Calloway, of course, was among the personalities who had a chance to talk to DJ Jazzy Jeff. In this interview, DJ Jazzy Jeff talked about juggling the music and the acting with Will Smith over the years.
