Until 2011, the West Coast hip hop scene was overlooked outside of Game and the movement in Oakland. All of this changed when Tyga emerged with his “Rack City” single, as the beat attracted fans. Little did the hip hop world know when that beat first impacted.

DJ Mustard provided the instrumental and he went back and gave the right beats to his friend, YG. Since then, YG has emerged as the leading artist from the West Coast, particularly Los Angeles. Other major players are Casey Veggies, Nipsey Hussle, and Dom Kennedy who are doing their thing.

In the first part of his CRWN interview, DJ Mustard touched on this. Although he remains humble, DJ Mustard is well aware of the role he played in helping the West Coast return to prominence. He discussed this during the interview with Elliott Wilson.
