Until the emergence of DJ Drama and DJ Khaled, the DJ had become nonexistent in the rap game, with the exception of clubs and the radio. Such figures as DJ Red Alert are, of course, considered legends, but had been overlooked for some time. But, over the past ten plus years, the DJs have been going strong.
DJs and their mixtapes have evolved into something much bigger than most expected. In many ways, mixtapes are actually bigger than albums. Pioneers in the mixtape game include 50 Cent, Memphis Bleek, J-Hood, Drake, and Joe Budden, among others. Each of these artists worked with various DJs for their mixtapes.
