A Texas woman is vowing never to use DoorDash again after. Her doorbell camera caught a passenger of the delivery driver stealing a $700 scooter from her porch, in Cypress.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon, shortly after the woman used DoorDash to place an order from Chick-fil-A. Just after 4 p.m., her doorbell camera captured footage of a gray car pulling up to her home. The driver, who was delivering the food, dropped off the order on her porch.

However, minutes after the customer’s daughter picked up the food, a barefoot man walked up to the house. After that, he took off with her daughter’s friend’s scooter. The video shows the man racing back to the same car, which the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office confirmed was being driven by the DoorDash delivery driver.

“It’s pretty bold to do something like that in the middle of the day somewhere where every house has cameras,” the woman, who requested anonymity, told ABC13.

When she contacted DoorDash, she discovered the delivery was registered under a female’s name, though a male delivered the food. This raised concerns about DoorDash’s driver verification and screening processes.

In response to the incident, DoorDash deactivated the driver’s account and released a statement: “What happened is absolutely unacceptable and clearly violates our policies. We have immediately deactivated the Dasher account involved. We deeply regret any stress and inconvenience this has caused the customer and have offered our support.”

Despite years of positive experiences, the woman now refuses to use the service, citing concerns over the type of people DoorDash employs. “It’s been convenient and great, but now that they’re hiring the type of people they’re bringing into our very nice and safe neighborhood, I don’t trust it at all anymore,” she stated.

The incident has sparked discussions about delivery service safety and the reliability of background checks for gig economy workers.
