Dr. Dre is primarily known for producing songs, but he will soon be producing his first film. While hip hop is what initially built his fortune, Dr. Dre has his hands in several pots. In 2008, Dr. Dre launched his Beats by Dre headphones, immediately meeting success. The year before, Dr. Dre took a page out of former group-mate, Ice Cube’s playbook, establishing a deal with New Line Cinema.
In 2007, Dr. Dre launched Crucial Films and the company established a first look deal with New Line Cinema. After five years, the first film from Crucial is in the works. Dr. Dre and Daniel Schnider came up with the idea of the horror film, Thaw. However, Vik Weet will be the man in charge of writing the film.
The movie focuses on “an ancient evil that emerges from the rapidly melting ice in the Yukon.â€
