In 2012, Drake stole the show several times, but his intent was to be a background player, as he showed his support all year. Starting off with Rick Ross’ “Stay Schemin,'” also featuring French Montana, Drake stole the show. At this period of time, Drake was battling with Common and used “Stay Schemin'” to air him out.

Instead of an album in 2012, Drake released “HYFR” with Lil Wayne and “Take Care,” his album title track, with Rihanna. Both songs wound up being summer hits, meanwhile Drake was on the “Club Paradise” tour. Using the tour to open doors for French Montana and 2 Chainz, along with other collaborators, Drake played a major part.

Closing 2012, Drake appeared on A$AP Rocky’s “Fuckin’ Problem” and Kendrick Lamar’s current single, “Poetic Justice.” Keeping himself hot through the entire year, MTV paid attention to Drake’s work and named him number five on the “Hottest MCs in the Game” list, inspired by his annual OVO Fest and performing at Jay-Z’s “Made in America” fest.
