Even though he was there as moral support for many of the biggest artists, 2012 had a major void with Drake being absent. In 2011, Drake released his sophomore album and he leaked songs throughout the year from the album. When the official album was released, Drake released songs off it until mid-2012.

Delivering albums only one year apart, Drake decided to let the world miss him for a brief period. Following the Take Care release, Drake faced backlash over the soft tone of the album, meant to capture a wider audience. Drake knew he had to change it up when he came back and he planned to show this change on the night of the 55th Annual Grammy Awards.

Drake said his “Started from the Bottom” single would come on Grammy night, but it actually came days earlier. Immediately, Wiz Khalifa and Soulja Boy jumped on the single and many others have followed. Realizing he cannot wait, Drake decided to release the official version of his “Started from the Bottom” single.
