VIBE has been a staple in the hip hop community for nearly two decades. Despite being much younger than longtime hip hop publication, The Source, VIBE has found an audience of its own. Unlike many other hip hop publications, VIBE has established itself as more of a lifestyle network. Readers do not only come to the magazine to read about celebrities, they also go there for fashion trends and social issues.
According to rumors at AllHipHop.com, Drake was not aware of this. Since its 2009 relaunch, VIBE has been released as a quarterly magazine. The upcoming issue is focused on the spring of 2012, thus the apparel of the person on the cover was to be spring-oriented. Drake, who has been controversial in the media for months, was given the cover of VIBE for the upcoming issue.
However, when it was time to do the shoot, Drake arrived eight hours late. When he arrived, he had his own wardrope picked out, winter clothing. VIBE wanted springwear and Drake reportedly told the photographers he was not a model. Unable to reach an agreement, Drake was said to have stormed out and left, leaving the magazine hanging. Eventually, Young Money label-mate, Nicki Minaj, was given the cover.
