Driver dies in high-speed crash at White House gate
A driver lost his life after crashing into a gate at the White House complex. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided with the outer perimeter gate. Thus, leading to fatal consequences for the driver, according to a statement from the US Secret Service.
The incident occurred just before 10:30 PM. Despite immediate efforts by on-site security to provide aid, the driver was found deceased upon their extraction from the vehicle. Authorities confirmed that the driver is an adult male. However, he has not yet been identified. The scene was quickly secured by the Secret Service. There was no threat to the White House or public safety reported.
The Washington Metropolitan Police Department is handling the investigation of the fatal crash. Meanwhile the Secret Service continues to look into the broader circumstances of the incident. Anthony Guglielmi, the communications chief for the Secret Service, noted that traffic closures were still in effect in the vicinity as investigations and emergency responses continued into the early hours of Sunday.
The driver lost his life during his crash. No motive has been revealed.
