Hot97’s morning show head honcho, Ebro Darden continues to level up in 2019 by kicking off the new year with a new executive job title.

The experienced radio host and former Program Director for Emmis Communications’ Hot 97, has been named Global Editorial Head of Hip Hop and R&B at Apple Music. His position is effective immediately. Darden initially joined Apple Music in 2015 as an anchor host alongside Zane Lowe and Julie Adenuga for Apple Music’s Beats 1 global livestream. The livestream show spotlights some of today’s hottest emcees in the music game such as Meek Mill, Cardi B and Ariana Grande Janelle Monae, Jennifer Lopez and Bad Bunny among countless others.

This new position will not interfere with any of his current business endeavors. The Beats 1 livestream will remain in its current time slot from 3PM to 5PM every Monday through Thursday.  Ebro will also continue to host his successful New York morning radio show on Hot97 (WQHT), Ebro In The Morning, which airs Monday through Friday from 6AM to 10AM.

Apple Music’s Global Director of Editorial Rachel Newman told Billboard:

“We’re excited that Ebro is joining us in a full-time capacity. Having dedicated his life and career to hip-hop, R&B and pop music, he has so much to offer. One of Ebro’s most defining characteristics is that he has great ears for where R&B and hip-hop are transcending and evolving to beyond even the borders of the U.S. He’ll obviously take a leadership position for us not just in hip-hop and R&B but also in the communities where the music is made, which is also exciting and something unique to Ebro.”

In his new role, Ebro will be overseeing a collective group of Hip-Hop and R&B editors where they will build editorial plans for artists, albums, and singles that will be released in the United States and abroad. He and his team will also be seeking out talent and connecting with urban music communities around the world. Ebro took to Instagram to share the news and his excitement, captioning the photo, “2019. Officially joined the Apple Team. Thank you Apple Music. Thank you Hot 97. And I’ll still be talking shit daily.”
