Coming into season two of “Empire,” Lee Daniels and Danny Strong said Lucious’ (Terrence Howard) childhood would be visited. The viewers would learn what makes Lucious tick. It turns out, there was a lot of misfortune in his past.
All season long, “Empire” viewers have watched Lucious endure painful memories of his mother, Leah Walker (Kelly Rowland). Her apparent suicide inspired “Boom Boom Boom Boom, Bang Bang Bang Bang,” his hit single. But, last night, the audience learned it was all a lie.
Ilene Chaiken, the showrunner of “Empire,” did an interview with Variety, discussing this twist. In the interview, they asked about Lucious’ mom turning up alive. She said this was planned the entire time and that his mother will soon become a part of the show.
