Erick Sermon is unimpressed with Current Hip Hop

There is a discord between the legendary rappers and the current generation. A few years ago, Nas called this out, infamously saying Hip Hop is Dead. The album title, the single, and the statement soon became a two-year discussion within the hip hop community. Many veteran artists agreed, while newcomers said veterans were simply upset because they were no longer relevant.
Three years removed from the “hip hop is dead” debate, many feel hip hop is in a good place, with such names as Rick Ross, Drake, Big Sean, and Nicki Minaj making hits. However, the veterans and longtime hip hop fans are still disappointed. Erick Sermon, while a major Rick Ross fan, is highly disappointed in hip hop, still.
Erick Sermon said he is a legend in the game, so he does not need to be relevant. The EPMD rapper went on to say Mary J. Blige and other R&B legends are classified as hip hop because they make urban music, when they are not hip hop. Other genres of music have a gap between the legends and current stars, which the current hip hop landscape does not, which highly disappoints Erick Sermon.
