Fat Joe wants off of Imperial/EMI

In 2006, Fat Joe signed with Imperial Records under the impression that he would be treated as an independent artist. He had complete creative freedom and the final result was “Make It Rain.”

The terms of the deal stated that Fat Joe made the music, set the dates, and then Imperial releases the music. But, before Fat Joe was getting radio play. With this album, Fat Joe has not had much radio play.

With his J.O.S.E., Pt. II album, Fat Joe did not have the luxury of having a hit single. As a result, Imperial decided to push Fat Joe’s album back, not once, but twice. That went against the deal, seeing how the album was complete.

All of a sudden, Fat Joe’s deal is not as sweet as it once appeared. Now, Fat Joe is upset with the label and looking for a way to get off. He did not sign a long-term deal with the label, so Fat Joe is free to go at any time.
