Forbes Officially Lists Tyler Perry as a Billionaire

Tyler Perry has been a mogul in the film industry for years. He recently started back up production at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta after having to shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, he has reached another amazing milestone in his career.

Perry appeared on a Forbes feature story today where they officially stated that he’s a billionaire now. He’s earned more than $1.4 billion since 2005. Among the factors accounted for in this number are $320 million earned for movies, TV shows, plays, $300 in investments, $280 million for Tyler Perry Studios, $60 million for BET+, and $40 million in homes.

In total, Perry has created 22 feature films, over 20 stage plays, 13 TV series, and two New York Times bestselling books. He also has a deal with Viacom where he’s paid $150 million per year to create content and this also comes with a stake in BET +. All of these accomplishments all came after he experienced homelessness in New Orleans.

“I love when people say you come from ‘humble beginnings,’ ” he says. “[It] means you were poor as hell.” It also makes success sweeter. “Ownership,” he adds, “changes everything.”

Perry has also done an amazing job of impacting communities in Atlanta and also fighting for social justice causes. Social media has since saluted him for this billionaire status and wishes him even more continued success.
